Out-of-Stock Recommendations · Website Personalization

Sold out? Show the next best.

A shopper clicks an ad for a boot that sold out in their size overnight. Instead of a dead end, the page leads with similar styles that are in stock in that size, and a form that remembers the size for when it is back. Every stock claim comes from the product feed. How it works

Stock from the feed, alternatives from the engine, and nothing promised that is not on the shelf.

01

Import the feed you already have

In stock or not, quantity, size and a restock flag arrive as columns of the product feed. Every rule on this page reads the feed, so nothing claims more than the last import knows.

02

Filter, then fall back

Recommendations take an in-stock-only filter and the shopper’s saved size, with a fallback algorithm behind them. The row never renders empty and never offers a boot that cannot be bought.

03

Say what is true, to the right person

A back-in-stock form where it is sold out, an “it’s back” banner for the people who looked, and a low-stock line only when the count really is low.

Under the hood

How Personyze handles stock on this store.

01

A sold-out landing page leads with what can be bought

The ad promised the Cascade Mid in size 10, and the feed says size 10 is gone. So under a one-line note saying exactly that, four styles that are in stock in size 10 take the first screen — ahead of the form, ahead of anything else.

02

In stock only, in their size, with a fallback behind it

The row is a similar-items recommendation filtered to feed rows marked in stock and to the size saved on the visitor’s profile from the ad’s landing URL. The two closest matches are sold out in 10 as well, so they are filtered out; had fewer than four qualified, trending hiking boots would fill the gap.

03

The back-in-stock form keeps the size

It is an ordinary lead-capture form. The address and the size are saved on the profile and passed to the store’s email platform through the form’s destination, so the alert that goes out is about size 10, not about the boot in general.

04

“It’s back” goes to the people who looked

A visitor who viewed the Cascade in an earlier visit gets a banner once the feed flags it as restocked, and the recently-viewed row — filtered to in-stock items — puts it first. The week before, the same row left it out.

05

Scarcity is shown only when it is true

The “only 3 left in size 9” line reads the quantity column in the feed and appears only at three or fewer. The viewed-today count beside it is ordinary social proof. There is no countdown clock and no number the feed did not supply.

06

A thin category shows what is left first

On a category where half the styles are out in the shopper’s size, a category recommendation filtered the same way is placed before the store’s own grid. The grid keeps its order underneath; the shopper simply meets what they can buy before what they cannot.

Questions

Questions about this example

How does Personyze know a product is out of stock?

From the product feed. Each catalog row carries an in-stock value and, if the store includes them, a quantity and a size. Conditions and recommendation filters read those columns, so stock on the page is as current as the last feed import; Personyze does not check the warehouse itself.

What happens when too few similar items are in stock?

The recommendation keeps a fallback. In this example similar styles are filtered to items that are in stock in the size saved on the visitor’s profile, and if fewer qualify than the row needs, trending items from the same category fill the remaining spots.

Who sends the back-in-stock email?

The form is a Personyze lead-capture form. It saves the email address and the size on the visitor’s profile and passes them to the store’s email platform or a webhook through the form’s destination; the store’s email platform sends the alert when the item is back.
